You can help us achieve our objectives to reduce single-use plastics in Sheffield Central!

Let’s get Sheffield City Council taking action

Now that the elections are over for 2022, now is the time to engage with Sheffield City Council to support our campaign.

If you live in the following wards…

Broomhill and Sharrow Vale, City, Crookes and Crosspool, Ecclesall, Fulwood, Hillsborough, Manor Castle, Nether Edge and Sharrow, Walkley

…please write to your City Councillors (www.writetothem.com) and ask them to support our campaign, here is a template email but feel free to add your own comments:

Dear ____ (name of Councillors)

I’m a supporter of a new group set up called Plastic Free Sheffield Central. They are part of over 800 Plastic Free Communities groups across the country taking action to reduce single-use plastics. I’m sure you know by now the impacts of single-use plastics. If plastics get into the waterways in Sheffield there is a good chance they will make their way into the oceans, breaking up into tiny microplastics. Plastics can now be found everywhere, in water, on land, ingested by animals, and even within humans in our blood.

Plastic Free Sheffield Central would like to work alongside Sheffield City Council to reduce single-use plastics and therefore reduce the chance of plastic pollution. Much work is already happening in Sheffield, including at the Universities, at businesses, within our theatres and at our arena. However, in order to proceed with the Plastic Free Sheffield Central campaign, they require the council to show their support by passing a motion at Full Council which says the Council will commit to:

  • reduce single-use plastics within Council premises and operations
  • support the Plastic Free Sheffield campaign by assigning a Councillor or staff member to join the Steering Group
  • support the work and initiatives of Plastic Free Sheffield Central to reduce single-use plastics in the community

More details about Plastic Free Sheffield Central can be found on their website: https://sheffieldactiononplastic.wordpress.com.

I hope you can show your support to this really important campaign.

Yours sincerely
